DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF TELEPHONE OPERATOR

v Telephone operators should ensure the following order to perform his/her duties in proper manner.

v All the internal and external calls are to be answered with smooth and clear voice.

v The scope of the responsibility will not only limit for the handing of incoming and outgoing telephone calls but also to take relevant and timely actions as the situation’s demand.

v Emergencies are to be attended with the clear understanding of situations while the SLAF rules and regulations are properly adhered. Also all the incoming calls are to be answered

HOW TO BE A GOOD TELEPHONE OPERATOR IN THE SRI LANKA AIR FORCE

v Lot of companies hires a phone operator which the main duty is to transfer calls, but in the military service it is different. So as a military telephone operator they must consider following facts.

v First thing to do is study the structure of the camp and familiarize who is the base commander and their assistance and familiarize yourself with different camp exchange.

v Try to learn as far as possible the extensions or telephone numbers of the people you have to transfer to another extension.

v When answering to the phone, always be a polite and you do not know who is on the other line. It could be a senior officer.

v To safe guard the image of the camp all incoming calls are to be welcome with high hospitality.

v Specially in the military service the operator’s duty is not only answering and connecting the calls but in an emergency situation calls should be taken relevant timely actions as per the situations.

v Operator must not give any un-authorized details to the outside subscribers regarding the camp security.

v A military telephone operator must follow up the camp security and telephone operator’s orders.
